Mathematics, Geometry and Similar Triangles

The castle was mostly designed out of triangles, squares, trapezoids, and octagons. Some triangles were 45, 45 and 90 degrees. Other triangles were mostly 22.5, 67.5 and 90 degrees.

We are continuing work on a Castel Del Monte geometry construction design. The basic drawing instruments are a compass and an unmarked straight edge. Make two parallel lines with the distance between lines equal to the radius of the court yard octagon. Put away your compass and use this set of parallel lines for all of the following constructions.

Constructing the following image is the second step. The seven vertical lines are constructed parallel and equidistant which means they are the same distance, = a, apart from left to right. Click on the following image to see what this looks like or read on to see how my castle was designed.

At this point we needed to get a model constructed so my father used other methods to get the scaled model size.

The following shapes and sizes show how we made the model. Numbers are in centimeters.
